UNMC Wittson Hall HVAC

Practices:
  • Building Services
Olsson Associates adapted a design to renovate the HVAC systems in the McGoogan Library within Wittson Hall, located on the University of Nebraska Medical Center campus. The design reused substantial portions of the duct to save cost, reduce waste, and minimize disruption during construction. The design also employed new strategies to greatly increase the energy efficiency of the overall system.

In addition to the overall library HVAC renovation, new systems were installed to protect two Rare Book archive areas. Micro-environments were created in these special areas to provide added protection to these priceless collections. Special lighting and fire suppression systems were also designed to further ensure the preservation of these archives.

The overall renovation of the library areas provided UNMC with better environmental control, greater energy efficiency, a higher level of protection for their rare book collections as well as a display and storage area fitting this rare archive of medical journals.
