Prasada Development
Practices:
The Prasada project is a large-scale commercial and mixed-use development located in Surprise, Arizona, at the base of the White Tank Mountains. The Prasada project encompasses three sections of land, approximately 1,920 acres, and includes 6.5 miles of public infrastructure roadways.Olsson Associates was contracted by the developers as the master consulting engineer for the off-site public infrastructure improvements. The scope includes designing major arterial roadways -- Waddell Road, Cactus Road, Reems Road, Cotton Lane, and Sarival Avenue; developing an overall Master Street Plan (MSP); and designing collector roads leading to the new Auto Mall and two power centers -- Cactus Power Center and Waddell Center West.
In addition to designing the roadway improvements, Olsson is also responsible for designing water, sewer, signing and marking, signal interconnect, street light, and drainage improvements. Finally, Olsson prepared the topographic survey, construction staking, and as-built survey for the entire project.
This project is different from most commercial developments in that Olsson is working in concert with the City of Surprise to develop master street plans for 20 miles of public roadways associated with this development. The one-mile roadway grid system already existed when Prasada started. However, because of the rural nature of the Prasada site abutting existing developments to the east, a great deal of coordination was necessary. It was extremely important to the success of the project to be able to work quickly and produce quality designs for all stakeholders involved.
Due to the scale and complexity of the project, it has been necessary to constantly communicate and coordinate with multiple public agencies and surrounding developers.
