McCain Entry Drive
Kansas State University needed to update an entry drive and plaza to create a new and vibrant welcoming "front door" to the McCain Auditorium, a highly visible and important facility on its campus. However, the project would need to be completed before the start of the 2008 school year--a challenge that created a tight timeline for design and construction.
Olsson Associates was hired to provide engineering design services, including civil, site lighting, structural, and landscape architecture. The McCain Entry Drive is located just north of the auditorium, and the project consisted of designing a circular drive and entry plaza to access the main entry to the building.
With a $1.2 million budget, the project relocated several underground utilities, including a four-inch water main that also serves as the fire line to McCain Auditorium.
Although the design documents had to be developed from concept phase to final construction in only eight weeks, the tight timeline was met, and the project was completed in time for the school year.
