Edina Garden Park Trail

Olsson Associates is providing bituminous bicycle and pedestrian trail planning and design services to the City of Edina Park and Recreation Department. The project includes conceptual plans, public involvement, design and construction documents, and construction administration, as well as a stormwater pollution prevention plan for the entire site. The design team is working closely with city staff to ensure the process is both efficient and effective.

As a result of Edina park user input, the need for more pedestrian connections was identified as an issue needing to be addressed. Olsson's multidisciplinary consulting team was asked to provide the city with an overall pedestrian master plan of the 19-acre park located in northwest Edina.

The major emphasis is on the design of a user-friendly, 8-foot-wide asphalt trail throughout the park, as well as a neighborhood linkage from the east side of the park to the west side. Special attention was placed on the pathways to ensure ADA accessibility and the safety of the various user groups.

Existing uses and significant trees were preserved as best as possible to ensure minimal site disturbance and cost.

Olsson is also spearheading the public involvement effort for this project by leading public meetings. Olsson staff is providing graphics and visual aids to benefit both city staff and community participants.
